I am as unha ppy as anyone about the current politics but I believe this is the bottom line and would never support violent acts. Remember Jesus and the ear of the high priest’s servant, Malchus.
Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever. 1 Jn 2:15-17
What a difficult prospect, that we are to be in the world but not of the world. This wonderful creation of the Almighty, though perfectly designed, has a flaw. <!–more–>The name of this flaw is Sin. If it was possible to have a community where Sin did not infiltrate then it would seem we could survive, but Jesus himself declared
“Have not I chosen you twelve and one of you is a devil.” He told us over and over that this world is not our home and yet we continue to be overcome with the desire to fix it. We must get over it and realize that if there was any way then God would have told us. We must look, to him, like the boy with his finger in the leaking dike, or maybe someone in Noah’s time holding an umbrella and telling everyone that it will be OK.
Here is the hard truth. It is not going to be OK. This world is a fast sinking ship. The building is on fire. The water is rising. Heb 13:14 For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come.
Now if we can understand that our job is to do what the book of Jude says. To live in the love of God, expecting the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to give us Eternal Life (the life of God), having compassion on those who struggle, and doing what we can to make a difference. Saving others even from the midst of the fire seeing how dreadful even the garment which has touched the flesh is.( hating the Sin, but loving the sinner.) Never failing to give Glory and Honour to him who is able to keep us from falling until he takes us home.
Our job then is much like the job of a fireman. We must not be distracted by falling debris and smoke filled rooms. We are on a search and rescue mission.
America has enjoyed many years of insulation from the fire which this world is engulfed in but here we have no permanent dwelling place. Our job as children of the living God has not changed. These current events should only deepen our resolve to share the good news of the Gospel so that others can be saved. Since we are more sure every day of what we need saving from.
